Hotel Don Alfonso was originally the home of its family, and its lineage continues to this day in the hands of the descendants of those original inhabitants.

Don Alfonso Jaramillo Gutiérrez (1876-1951) was an illustrious man, notable for his contributions to the development of Pereira, with a broad mindset and a spirit of determination in building works of progress. His name is engraved in an entire era of progress for Pereira, during which he overcame all obstacles with his love and capacity for service. He actively participated in the construction of the city’s access roads, capitalizing on them and personally requesting national support.

He also promoted education, making efforts to bring schools such as La Enseñanza, the Franciscan mothers’ religious community, and La Salle College. He was involved in negotiations to acquire the property of the first power plant, and with the income generated, the construction of the water supply and sewage system was started. Later, he initiated the construction of the central market square, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal for Civic Spirit, driven by his desire for progress. Finally, he built the iconic Circunvalar Avenue, officially named Av. Alfonso Jaramillo Gutiérrez, a major road that is now a landmark for locals and visitors, symbolizing the life of the people of Pereira.
